Blurb: Seventeen year old Katelyn Richards is a stronger person than anyone will ever know, and that is just the way she wants it. Behind her normal facade lies the reality of a broken home life.
My thoughts: I don’t know what to say about this book. It’s like when I read Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma and even Me Against You by Jenny Downham, this book is one of those books that will break your heart.
It begins with Katelyn and Kevin, brother and sister, traveling to a new home with their abusive mother Lucinda. This is yet another town and yet another chance. Katelyn and Kevin have been through a lot in their lives, from homelessness, starvation, and being uprooted twenty plus times, they are the epitome of kids who have had it bad. Even through that though Katelyn plays the part with the other kids. She does her homework, she goes to school, she doesn’t fall into the bad crowds.
And then Max steps into Katelyn’s life and at first, she’s unsure why a guy like him would want a girl like her. As time goes on he wears her down, and eventually, she’s meeting his parents, he’s buying her gifts, and she’s making friends at her new school.
Her mother Lucinda is trying to make a go at with this guy Jim but things get sticky for them and he’s no good to Lucinda for a number of reasons. Katelyn and Lucinda get into a lot, and yes there are some graphic scenes where Lucinda hurts Katelyn.
The touching part of this story is really Max and his parents and her teacher Mr. Graves. They all want to help her find a way out of the situation and while Katelyn has thought of Child and Family services as a death trap, she later realizes that they are on her side.
I don’t want to ruin the ending, but Tiffany is known for her happy endings, and so you won’t be disappointed by the end of this book. Max is also quite a sweet boyfriend and Tiffany doesn’t disappoint on the dirty sexy scenes.
I’m glad Tiffany took a chance and wrote this beautiful, heartbreaking contemporary novel because it really goes to show that someday soon does come.
And, unfortunately I’m not going to be giving away a copy of Wishing for Someday Soon, but Tiffany writes a lot and her Saving Angels series is amazing too!
