See to the left, I have finished the second book. That means it’s almost the 15th and I’m through 2 books in the HP series. I don’t believe I will finish by the end of January and so I’m hoping Lori at Pure Imagination will be offering some extensions!
This month has been a tough one for me in terms of juggling everything. My life is already a balancing act, and so with that this book has been read very late at night and often I have sacrificed sleep to read it.
That being said, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The story is original, if you don’t read a page you’re lost in the next page, you really need to pay attention because of all the new things J.K. Rowling throws at you, like Polyjuice Potion and Moaning Myrtle. You have to read between the lines to see that Lockheart is a right foul git who really I would have loved for him not to be in the book at all. He was one of those characters I could have gone without. I love though how every other character plays their part and how even the other students in Gryffindor are mentioned once again. You get to hear references this early on to Lavender Brown, Dean Thomas, and Seamus Flannigan. One person that is going to come out of left field is Cho, she isn’t mentioned until later in the books, but that’s just something not every author can predict, who they will stick with throughout a book. In terms of writing, I have to say in the last book the writing style bothered me. It was very much like C.S. Lewis with brackets and all sorts of leniences on grammar. Some of the english slang also caught me off guard, but it’s hard to notice it with all of the new magickal slang and new words J.K. has brought into the book. Once again though I find myself believing the story, getting invested and loving the outcome. There really isn’t a more original series out there to read, and it explains why HP has become a worldwide phenomenon. You know, when it comes to witches and wizards in 40 years, nobody will be referencing the wicked witch of the west anymore, it’ll be Harry Potter. 5/5 Stars from me and I’m sure you know where you can buy it!
Off to Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban!
